He Is Risen!

He Is Risen Indeed!

Happy Easter! With joy we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Out of God’s great love for us, Jesus was sent to earth to live a perfect life and then die a terrible death, taking the punishment that we, as sinful people, deserve. But Satan, death, and the grave could not conquer Jesus. On Easter morning He rose from the dead, giving us His victory over sin, death, and the devil. Praise God!

I asked some of our Preschool through 2nd grade students last week what Easter was all about. Here are some of their replies:

• It’s when we get eggs.

• It’s when Jesus died on the cross.

• It’s so we can have eternal life in Heaven.

• It’s the Easter bunny.

• It’s when Jesus came out of the tomb and rose again.

• It’s when I get to go to church.

• It’s a good holiday because Jesus rose.

• It’s getting together and playing games.

• It’s really, really happy and fun.

• It’s when He died for us so we can have eternal life if we believe.

• I used to think Easter was about eggs, but now I know it’s when Jesus died for the guilt of our sins.

Seeking to reach all with Christ, St. John Lutheran School partners with families to provide a Christ-centered education which nurtures faith in Christ,

promotes discipleship, develops God-given abilities and skills,

and encourages academic excellence.

Arbor Day is celebrated on April 28. Each year the Kendallville Tree Commission donates a tree to a school, and this year is St. John’s turn. We will have a ceremony on Friday, April 28, at 2:00 P.M.. A Tulip Tree (the state tree of Indiana) will be planted on the parkway along Summit Street. Parents are welcome to join us.

Internet Safety Night Rescheduled

Our Parenting Night on Internet Safety that was supposed to be on Monday, March 13, has been re-scheduled for Monday, May 1. The student presentations will occur in the afternoon and the parenting session will start at 6:30. We hope that everyone will plan now to attend this valuable informational session!

Tuesday, May 30 – no bus service either way

Wednesday, May 31 – no bus service either way

Please mark your calendar now and plan to attend the St. John Auction on Friday evening, May 5. Just call the school office to RSVP! Please also be thinking of whom you would like to ask to join you. We are also looking for people to step forth to give their time or talent to be auctioned off! Anything goes! Offer yourself!! This fun evening includes an excellent dinner, awesome silent auction items, and a lively live auction, all held in the beautiful surroundings of Sylvan Cellars Event Center in Rome City.

The auction is a major fundraiser for our school. It requires a great deal of work to make it a success. This year’s auction committee is chaired by Summer Moser and Haley Arnold. Their committee has all been helping in various ways. There is room for you to help as well! Contact Summer or the school office to find out what is needed and how that will match up with your interests and available time.

School Choice (Voucher) Students

Parents of students applying for a School Choice (voucher) Scholarship for the 2017-18 school year need to come in to the office to complete your application for next year. The process takes about 10 minutes with Mrs. Thiem. You will need a copy of your 2016 tax return, unless you receive other forms of public assistance. We will have verification of that if you do.

21st Century Scholar Program

Parents, especially of 7th and 8th graders, need to explore this state program that provides college funding for eligible Indiana students. Income eligibility requirements exist, but the application process and other requirements are fairly simple. Scholarships for both Indiana public and private colleges are available. Applications must be made during the student’s 7th or 8th grade year. You can find all the details at www.in.gov/ssaci/2345.htm

Big Daddy Weave Coming to Kendallville!

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to see a popular Christian band right here at Cole Auditorium on Friday evening, July 28th! Cathy Thiem is working with a group from Grace Christian Church and a few of our members have graciously helped sponsor the event. THANK YOU!!

Big Daddy Weave’s song “Redeemed” recently spent 11 weeks at number 1 and was dubbed “Song of the Year” at the K-LOVE fan awards. Their “Love Come to Life” album yielded the rare feat of four back-to-back #1 singles. Lead singer Mike Weaver says of their newest album “Beautiful Offerings” that “every day is an opportunity to bless the heart of God through how we live, how we encounter our families, people we see in the grocery store, and everybody we meet. This isn’t us buckling down and trying to earn God’s love by pleasing Him. It’s a realization that because we are children of God, we can bless the heart of God by being subject to and directed by Him in every moment of our lives. Our lives then become something that is pleasing to Him. We become a beautiful offering.”

Tickets will go on sale on May 1st and can be purchased at BDWkendallville.eventbrite.com. Sales are expected to be brisk, so don’t delay!!

Document Shredder Event

Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 – noon

Fairview Shopping Center – US 6 East

Bring your tax records, personal or business papers (no trash or metal) to dispose of in a confidential way. Donations are accepted and will benefit the Kendallville Lions Club and their philanthropic events. There may be a limit on how much you can bring. See Vernie Scheiber with your questions.

April is here and it’s time to think spring!

I’ve got some ideas of things you should bring.

The kids like small wind-up toys, or so I am told

At dollar stores everywhere you’ll find they are sold.

If a wind-up is not on your list to buy

Then check out the brochure with other items to try.

Ask God to help pick the one that’s just right

He’s already got the recipient in His sight!

Again, I ask you to help fill a shoebox

To show a child in need that OUR JESUS ROCKS!

They’ll feel your love from so far away

Your little gift will make their day!

Anything else that you think fits the bill

Can be placed in the collection box each month as well.

In the lobby you’ll find it upon the floor

Just lift its lid and fill it galore!
