Mr. Scheiber: a faithful, giving, dedicated, humble, servant leader of the Lord for 40 years!

Congratulations to Mr. Scheiber for 40 years as a Lutheran educator. Vernie was recognized by the Indiana District of Lutheran Schools at the Lutheran Education Association Convocation last weekend. We thank God for Vernie’s service to children and families over these 40 years. He has been, and continues to be, a blessing to many and an example of Christian servant leadership to us all.

Vernie began his teaching career at Zion Lutheran School in St. Charles, MO. After twelve years there, he accepted the Call to St. John. He is in his 28th year here, serving a principal and teacher. We thank God for Vernie and his ministry, and pray for God’s continued blessings through this year and all to come!

Academic Festival

This Saturday, November 9, we will hold the 22nd Annual Academic Festival. This is an excellent way for our students to use the academic abilities that God has blesses them with. We will be competing against students from Trinity, Sturgis, St. Paul, Bremen, and St. Mary’s, Avilla. Students who are participating will receive a schedule and list of events by Wednesday. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers, but we are still in need of more helpers. The tasks are simple, the day is short, and it is a lot of fun. Please contact Mr. Walz if you can help.

IMPORTANT PARENT SURVEY

Thank you to the 25 parents who have completed this online parent survey, but we need more input! This survey is being conducted by The Lutheran Foundation and True North Strategic Advisors. These groups are conducting a study of the Lutheran schools in northeast Indiana. Your participation is very important in seeing how Lutheran schools, including St. John, have been successful in the past and how we can continue to grow to meet your needs. Please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey at:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V2FZVKD

There is only 1 week left to complete this survey!

Little Saints Night

Little Saints Night was a rousing success for all the little princesses, ninjas, superheroes, cowboys, policemen, clowns, and more who attended. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate as a school family in a safe environment. Thanks to all the parents who donated candy. Thanks also to the parents, alumni, and students (too many to name individually) who helped set up, run events, and clean up. Special thanks to ANGEL DIEHM for organizing this event and spending countless hours making sure it ran smoothly!

FluMist Time

Students who have returned their completed permission form will receive the FluMist vaccine this Wednesday, November 6, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Preschool students will need to be brought to school at 1:30 that day to receive the vaccine. All other students will be pulled from class to receive the mist.

Picture Re-take Day

Picture Retake Day is Friday, November 15, beginning at 8:30. Students who were absent on the first Picture Day will be photographed. Any students not satisfied with the original picture package must bring their entire photo package back in order to have their picture retaken. Afternoon preschool students who need to be photographed should arrive at 8:30.

First Trimester Ends

This Friday marks the end of the first trimester. Look for report cards to be sent home on Monday, November 18.

Munchies in the Morning

Please set aside some time on Friday, Nov. 22, from 7:00-7:45, to join us for some morning treats. Donuts with Dads and Mornings with Mom have been combined into this one event. Scheduled for the week before Thanksgiving, the teachers are hosting this event as a way of saying thank you to our families for being here at St. John. We look forward to hosting you and giving you the opportunity to have a special treat with your children at school that morning.

A big thank you to everyone who sold those delicious Butter Braid bread loaves during this fall’s fundraiser! Orders will be delivered THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14. Please mark this date on your calendar now and plan to pick up your child’s order. It is imperative parents are prompt on pick-up day as freezer space is not available to store orders not picked up. Veterans Day Assembly

All parents are welcome to join us for a special Veteran’s Day assembly next Monday, November 11, at 1:30, in the Worship Center. This assembly is also open to the community and we welcome all visitors, especially our veterans and active service members. The assembly, “Remembering Our Veterans”, is led by David Paul Britton, and is a Christ-centered praise and worship service honoring veterans of all service branches. We encourage you to be a part of our celebration.

Operation Christmas Child

A great way to SERVE God by spreading love to others around the world is to pack a shoebox full of toys and school supplies for a needy child in another part of the world! A brochure has been given to the students and is available in the office with the specific information. ASK YOUR CHILD WHAT THEY LEARNED ABOUT THIS COLLECTION IN CHAPEL LAST WEEK!! All boxes should be delivered to the school office no later than 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25th. Unfortunately, any boxes delivered after that time will NOT be delivered as we have a strict deadline to meet. The child receiving your gift will be blessed with toys, but more importantly shown the love of Jesus through you!

St. John will again be serving as an Operation Christmas Child Relay Center this year! That means shoeboxes from all over the area will be delivered to our church on their way to the Regional Collection Center in Ft. Wayne. Help will be needed every day and/or evening from November 18 through the 25th. PLEASE speak with Mrs. Thiem and offer a few hours of your assistance with this project! We will even have homemade cookies and Christmas music!

McWashington D.C. McThank You!

A huge thank-you to all the families who came and purchased food at McDonald's and to the students for doing the work for McTeacher's Night a few weeks ago. Our profit from that event was over $400! Thanks again for the support.

Advent Worship

As a part of the spiritual formation we provide children, our students are preparing to help lead worship during the Advent season! Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas. Our students, preschool through 8th grade will be divided up to lead the worship services on Thursday, Dec. 5, and Thursday, Dec. 19. The St. John Youth Group will lead the worship on Thursday, Dec. 12. All services begin at 7:00. More details will be coming home in the weeks ahead. A light meal will be available before the services to both ease your schedule and provide some fellowship time. We hope that your family will plan now to join us for these special services.

Pep Session!

We are having our first school pep session on November 7th, at 2:00 p.m. We will be honoring our soccer, Spell Bowl, and volleyball players. We will also have a secret contest you will not want to miss! To help celebrate the day, we declare it Blue and White Day in honor of our school! Parents and special friends are encouraged to show up to our first pep session of the year at 2:00 p.m.!

Lost and Found

Lots and lots of items have accumulated in our lost and found cabinet located just outside the library in the gym. Please take a moment to browse through the items soon. Remaining items will be given to Goodwill very soon!

The next Hungry Howie’s Day is next Tuesday, November 12

(and each second Tuesday thereafter).

Congratulations to the following students for being recognized as a SERVANT student last week: Jared DiGirolamo, Bethany Murphy, Owen Chambers, Brock Klink, and Isaac Blaskie. We give thanks to God for these students who let their light shine before others.

St. John T-Shirts

If you missed the chance to order a tie-dye t-shirt with St. John’s logo “Live to Serve” earlier this year, you can still order through the website at East Noble. Many different colors and styles are available by visiting www.entiedye.weebly.com. This is a special fundraiser by the East Noble special needs program to fund trips for the students in the community.

Pictures, Please

Those who have snapshots that are taken at St. John events this year are invited to e-mail those to the office. They will be forwarded to our photographer for possible inclusion in our annual yearbook. Please send pictures to Mrs. Thiem at cthiem@stjohneagles.org. Thanks!
