The Principal’s Pen

Here’s a riddle for you: When is the beginning also the end? The answer is: quite often! The beginning of the school year is also the end of the summer vacation. The end of the school year is also the beginning of summer vacation. Most of the time, the ending of one event or time is also the beginning of another event or time.

For the month of May, our Bible verse is Revelation 22:13

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

We encourage families to learn verse this together, just as many of our students are learning it in their classrooms. The obvious connection with this verse is to the ending of our school year. As this year come to a close, we know that summer vacation is also starting. We are excited for the end of the year and a break from the challenges that this year brought. We are excited about the coming summer break. Whether we have trips planned or will be staying closer to home, we are excited for a change of pace and schedule. The ending and the beginning are both exciting events!

More importantly, however, is the fact that Jesus is in it all. Revelation 22:13 reminds us that Jesus is the beginning and the end. This is certainly true of this school year as we began the year with opening chapel and will close next week with a closing chapel service. Jesus was present as the year began, He will be present as the year ends, and He has been present for every moment in between.

As this year comes to an end, and as the summer vacation begins, may we be encouraged and strengthened in knowing that Jesus will continue to be with us as He has always been!

Seeking to reach all with Christ, St. John Lutheran School partners with families to provide a Christ-centered education which nurtures faith in Christ,

promotes discipleship, develops God-given abilities and skills,

and encourages academic excellence.

School Choice (Voucher) Students & Parents

Due to new legislation just passed, the CHOICE Scholarship Program is expanding. This is great news for both current and new families. Initial details were shared in a separate letter and email. Please watch for further communication on this topic as many of our families will now be eligible to receive a CHOICE Scholarship for next year or the year after. Due to these changes, we are holding off on completing most CHOICE applications for the time being. This is to avoid needing to redo applications based on the new guidelines. Students who received a full CHOICE Scholarship in the past and whose family income has not changed much are able to complete the application process in the office. You may contact Mrs. Thiem to schedule an appointment. All other applications will need to wait until after July 1.

New Technology and Other Enhancements

The 2nd special letter and email came home last week with information on our plans to roll out student Chromebooks for next school year. Along with the Chromebooks we are purchasing related hardware and software to enhance our use of technology as well as other services to help our students continue to learn and make up any COVID-related learning loss. All of this is possible through the use of EANS funds (Emergency Assistance to Nonpublic Schools. These federal funds are being made available to schools now through an application with the state of Indiana. Additional information will be shared as new developments are finalized.

GriefShare

A place to begin the journey from mourning to joy!

Through the medium of video:

• Find hope as we hear from people who have journeyed through grief – what helped in the journey.

• Receive helpful ideas from grief counselors, Christian authors, and pastors; many of whom share their own experiences of journeying through grief.

• Be encouraged to travel through your unique journey from mourning to joy – moving at your own pace.

Through small group conversation:

• Experience support and care with others through:

o listening to one another;

o discussing the video presentations; and

o mutual acceptance without ‘pressure’ to heal.

Through a workbook completed at home:

• Real stories of people journeying through grief and what they found helpful.

• Appropriate Scripture passages that apply to the topic.

Grief work is hard work. Join us for 2 or 3 sessions. See if GriefShare proves helpful to you.

In-person or online!

Begins Wednesday, June 2nd at 6:30 p.m.

Through Wednesday, September 1st.

St. John Library or Online – sessions 90-105 minutes.

Begin at any time! Please come!
