The Principal’s Pen

Hi, my name is Lilly Moser and I was principal for the day last Tuesday and I thought you guys would like to know a little about me. So, I think that this school is the best ever! I think that because as a school we stick together like glue and work together. I think that is really important if you want a good school. Also, we are the best because we teach people all about God’s great love for us. So, that is why I love St. John!

Now I will tell you a little bit about myself. I live on a farm and my family farms pigs. I have 2 brothers: one is 11 and one is 4. When I grow up I want to be an archeologist, and my favorite book is Wonder and if you haven’t read Wonder you need to!

So now you know a little about me so goodbye but before I say that I would like to thank my grandparents Deb Hayden and Kurt Hayden for getting me the ticket to be principal for the day! So, goodbye to you guys and thank you grandparents!

Principal for the Day

Miss Lilly Moser

Mr. Walz adds that Miss Moser did an excellent job filling in for him. She was fun to work with and was very helpful. The next time he needs help, she’s hired!

Seeking to reach all with Christ, St. John Lutheran School partners with families to provide a Christ-centered education which nurtures faith in Christ,

promotes discipleship, develops God-given abilities and skills,

and encourages academic excellence.

Preschool Teacher Update

We have extended a verbal offer to Mrs. Alisha Mast to be our preschool teacher for the rest of this year. Mrs. Mast graduated from IPFW in 2011. Since then she has worked in the West Noble School District, primarily at West Noble Elementary. She has been both a long-term and short-term substitute, a Title I Reading teacher, an assistant in the Resource Room, and an after-school tutor. In her interview she described her strengths as “able to adapt well as she has worked with a wide range of students, loves to learn, and classroom management”. Also in her interview she shared the importance of her faith and her excitement for the opportunity to share it in a school setting. Her references describe her as “friendly, cooperative, dependable, happy, great, wonderful with kids, and a hard worker”. The principal at West Noble Elementary said that she would be at the top of his list if he were hiring. Mrs. Mast is married and has two children and lives in Albion. Please pray that God will lead Mrs. Mast to accept our offer to teach preschool!

As a part of the spiritual formation we provide children, our students are preparing to help lead worship during the Advent season! Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas. Grades K through 2 will lead the final worship service on Thursday, Dec. 14. at 7:00.

Christmas at Bixler Lake

Don’t miss the opportunity to see our student’s work displayed on large wooden boards at Bixler Lake. Most classes in our school painted Christmas greetings to be displayed along with boards from other local school children. The displays will be lit each evening from 6-9 p.m. Other activities will be available during those times as well.

These students and their families, prayed for this week:

Carys Shire, Lillian Smoot, Brody Workman, Rhoda Bontrager, and Allison Butler

Welcome (Soon) to Paul Wendt!

Paul Wendt, the candidate our church Called to be our Director of Christian Education (DCE) has accepted our Call! Paul and his wife Chris will arrive sometime in February. This is a new position for our church and one we are excited to be adding. Mr. Wendt will oversee all of the educational programs of the church, from VBS and Sunday School, to youth group, adult Bible studies, and small groups. He will also work with our worship services. His third area of responsibility is within the school in making connections with school children and their families and making building relationships between the church and the school. Please stay tuned for Paul’s arrival and when you will be able to greet him!

Inclement Weather

As the likelihood of inclement weather increases, a few reminders about the procedure for school closings are in order. St. John will follow the East Noble School Corporation. When their decision is made you will be notified through a ParentAlert call and the following media outlets: WPTA, WISE, WANE, WBCL, WAWK, WLAB, and STAR. You will see or hear St. John Lutheran, Kendallville, listed on all these media outlets. The option exists for school to be closed, on 2-hour delay, or on 3-hour delay, which pushes dismissal time back to 3:55. Parents must always use discretion, whether we are in session or on delay, to determine if their own drive to school is too hazardous and they need to wait before coming in to school.

Reduced-Price Sale!!!

Available in the school office are some extra Butter Braids. They are being offered first-come-first-served at a price of $9.00 each. Check with Mrs. Thiem to see what is still available.

“I Need A Silent Night” - Amy Grant

I’ve made the same mistake before –

too many malls, too many stores

December traffic, Christmas rush.

It breaks me till I push and shove

Children are crying while mothers are trying

to photograph Santa and sleigh

The shopping and buying and standing forever in line.

What can I say?

I need a silent night, a holy night to hear an angel voice through the chaos and the noise. I need a midnight clear, a little peace right here. To end this crazy day with a silent night.

December comes then disappears

faster and faster every year

Did my own mother keep this pace

or was the world a different place?

Where people stayed home wishing for snow

watching three channels on their TV

Look at us now rushing around trying to buy Christmas peace.

What was it like back there in Bethlehem with peace on earth, good will toward men?

“There were shepherds out in the field keeping watch over their flock by night And the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were so afraid. And the angels said fear not for behold I bring you good news of a great joy that shall be for all people. For unto you is born this day a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace.”
