Why We’re Glad We Chose St. John…

• Because we learn about God (6th grader)

• Special friends, Teachers rule, Joyful Jesus, Open Love, Holy House, Noble Eagles, all of these things represent St. John, this is why I love St. John (4th grader)

• Because St. John is a school where we can learn about God (2nd grader)

• Because I am learning Jesus loves me (preschooler)

• Because I love it. I’m glad I got to it, I love it. Because I love it. (preschooler)

• Because I have so many friends. I like my teacher, Mrs. Atz, way too much. I like St. John school because it is a really nice school (1st grader)

• Because I met new friends on my first day (preschooler)

• Because I get to learn about Jesus, and we get to have pajama days. Those are fun. I’m blessed because I have great teachers to help me at St. John (5th grader)

• Because the Christian values taught and the education (parent)

• Because of the strong Christian teachings in the small classroom settings which also enhances the sense of community within our lives (parent)

• Because everyone at St. John is concerned with the relationship of our children with God, the importance of fellowship with other Christians, and the need for a Christ-centered education (parent)

• Because it feels like home (parent)

• Because I remember how quickly St. John staff picked up on my granddaughter’s learning difficulties and had her tested and gave her individual help. I have seen such a change in her confidence and wanting to learn (grandparent)

• Because the education at St. John has been superb. My oldest child was well prepared academically to move into high school and thrive (parent)

Thank you to all those who submitted responses to why you are glad your chose St. John!

Jump Rope for Heart Volunteers Needed

For the next two weeks, students will be seeking donations for the American Heart Association. The AHA leads the way in heart health research and education in the United States. St. John's 3rd Annual Jump Rope for Heart event will take place on February 16. Last year our students raised over $4500 for the AHA and this year we are striving to help even more. Our goal this year is $6000. If every student raises $10 more than last year, we can easily reach our goal. Directions for setting up an online donation network (easy and effective!) and collection envelopes were sent home last week. The envelopes will need to be returned on or before Feb. 16th. Our gym fills with heart pumping activity and music on that day, and if you would like to participate too, we will need parent volunteers to twirl ropes, play basketball and to encourage the students as they jump and shoot hoops. If you are available, please call Mrs. Thiem and let her know when you'd like to help. The schedule for the day is as follows:

8:15-9:15. 4th and 5th

8:55 – 9:15 T/Th Preschool

9:15-10:15. 6th-8th

10:15-11:00. K and 1st

1:15-2:15 2nd and 3rd

Thank you for your help and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call the school.

Science Fair - - Monday, February 20

It’s time to gear up for our school Science Fair! The Science Fair provides our budding scientists with the opportunity to explore an area of scientific interest. Beyond learning more about this area, working on a Science Fair project helps children grow in their planning ability, time management skills, research skills, writing, organization, creativity, and public speaking skills. Science Fair materials have been made available to students and are available in the office.

If you need a display board you can get one from the office. The boards are 32” high and 36” wide and are available first come-first served. You can make your check out to “St. John PTL”. Each board is $5.50.

Scholastic Book Fair

St. John will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from Sunday, March 5 through Sunday, March 12. Huge thanks to Summer Moser for serving as chairperson once again! Plan now to visit the Book Fair and find some great new reading material for your kids, and maybe even for yourself!

Do You Love Kids?

Do you love kids? Do you love to learn? Do you love to work on a team? Do you love to solve problems? If the answer is yes, then we want you to consider helping coach our Lego Robotics Team. Mrs. Anderson has ‘retired’ and we are in need of a new coach. We would really like to have 2 or 3 people share this opportunity. Mrs. Anderson is willing to do some training and you can learn the Lego and robot parts. If you answered yes to the questions above, you will do great in this role, and we would love to have you consider it! Contact the office for more information or if you are interested.

New Small Group Beginning and YOU are Invited!!

Every summer, the St. John Youth Group takes around twenty 6-12th graders to the Momentum Youth Conference. There they hear powerful speakers that challenge and strengthen their faith. If, as a parent, you are interested to know what the Momentum Youth Conference is like or are just looking to be challenged in your own faith, there’s a new small group starting up in February. Former school parent Bambee Lehman will be hosting “Momentum Rewind,” a series of videos and study guides that relive the 2016 Momentum Youth Conference.

The group will begin February 9, and will meet every other Thursday from 7-8:30pm in the new library. Please contact Bambee (347-5282) or Nick Hayden, the youth leader, (343-0561) so we can know who’s coming.

St. John Showcase 2017!!

We are gearing up for St. John Showcase 2017!!! Slated for Friday evening, March 10th, the Showcase is a great opportunity for students to do just that – showcase their God-given talents and abilities! The evening contains a dinner; displays of student-created artwork, projects, and displays (both from school and at home); and a talent show. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!

St. John Showcase 2017 provides an opportunity for students to share their God-given gifts and abilities in areas such as art, music, dance, drama, etc. Last year’s event was a very positive experience for many of our students, and we are hoping to make this year’s event even better. Please contact Ms. Dencklau now if you are willing to help. An informational letter and entry form for the talent show will be sent home this week. Mrs. Dencklau can be reached at (319) 939-7755 or chopinali@yahoo.com if you have questions.

We have a good supply of bumper stickers advertising our school and would like to distribute them to interested parents. If you would like to show your support of our school in this way, please contact Mrs. Thiem for your free sticker!
